(ETH) – Three global airline alliances representing 58 member airlines are reportedly urging governments to put into place greater guidelines for passenger testing of coronavirus along with digital health pass technology. According to KTLA 5, Airline agencies, Oneworld, Star Alliance, and SkyTeam have come forward stating that testing could be part of an overall approach to restart international travel.
The alliances urge greater measures than the “blunt instrument” of quarantines aimed at halting the spread of the coronavirus. The report details that new testing guidelines from the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Authority could ultimately “pave the way for a framework of trust to be established between countries,” according to Star Alliance CEO Jeffrey Goh who said in the joint statement on the oneworld.com website.
Oneworld CEO Rob Gurney and SkyTeam CEO Kristin Colvile also joined in the statement. In the statement, it was discussed the possibility of using the CommonPass digital health pass, which reportedly uses a smartphone app to securely verify that passengers have complied with health requirements, whether through a test or a future vaccine when it is made readily available.
Lastly, SkyTeam is said to include Aeroflot, Delta, Air France-KLM, and China Airlines in a partial list of members. Oneworld has, among others, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, and Alaska Airlines while some of Star Alliance’s members are Air Canada, Lufthansa, SAS, and United.
This news follows a recent report that stated that Ticketmaster, which is an American ticket sales and distribution company that is based in Beverly Hills, California with operations in many countries around the world has recently announced that they are preparing for a potential return to live events in the coming months and is also reportedly working on plans to use smartphones to verify whether customers have been vaccinated or tested for the virus. If they have failed to do so they will be denied access to tickets for an event.
